This journey has deep roots that extend beyond our time. It all began with our grandparents, who understood the significance of community and the need for a place where people could come together. Thus, the original Flanagan's Pub and 4J's restaurant were born. However, my father, one of the brothers in our name, along with his older brot
This journey has deep roots that extend beyond our time. It all began with our grandparents, who understood the significance of community and the need for a place where people could come together. Thus, the original Flanagan's Pub and 4J's restaurant were born. However, my father, one of the brothers in our name, along with his older brother Jim, pursued different career paths, and the pub and restaurant were eventually sold.
But in the 1990s, a dream was reignited. They set their sights on an abandoned railroad depot in Wellsville, New York, with hopes of recreating the original Flanagan's Pub. Little did they know that this building had been declared a historical landmark, making it impossible to transform into a pub. Nevertheless, the dream persisted. As I grew into adulthood, our discussions often revolved around what could have been.
Life continued, with marriages, children, and now the next generation beginning to marry and have children of their own. I had a fulfilling career as a Paramedic/Firefighter, cherishing every moment, both good and bad. Then, the world was hit by an unwelcome global pandemic, a period that made many of us reevaluate our priorities. I could no longer be content merely discussing my father's dream. It was time to turn that dream into reality.
And just like that, Flanagan Brothers Bierworks (FBB) was born. My father had envisioned leaving a pub and a community gathering spot to us, his sons. Unfortunately, he passed away before that could happen. However, I am determined to make his dream a reality for our children while celebrating our Irish heritage in the process.
After retiring, I persuaded my wife to embark on this adventure with me, and we landed in one of the most beautiful places in America – the Great Smoky Mountains, specifically Jonesborough, Tennessee, the oldest town in the state, steeped in history and mystique.
Our planning continued earnestly, and fate brought me into contact with Uriah Bishop, who shared a similar dream of opening a brewery. We realized that neither of us could do this alone, and we had the unique opportunity to team up and bring this brewery to life. While our ultimate vision for the brewery aligns, our individual passions and expertise complement each other beautifully.
Together, we've embarked on this journey and can't wait to meet you in person, share stories, and express our passion for craft beer and brewing. We want to extend an open invitation to you and your family to be part of our growing family. We aspire to be your "third place," a welcoming spot where everyone feels at home. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and you can always find Uriah or me at the brewery, eager to hear your stories and engage in conversations about beer and brewing.

- Flanagan may not have been a math whiz, but he found his calling as a paramedic, a profession that allowed him to have fun while getting paid for it. As they say, doing what you love means you're never really working. He's happily married to Michelle, and together, they have six children: Codie, Rilie (with Jenny), Kellsie, Gracie, Maddie

He's happily married to Michelle, and together, they have six children: Codie, Rilie (with Jenny), Kellsie, Gracie, Maddie, and Finn. It seems like one member of the family had to embrace the stereotype of having a huge Irish clan!
- Gene Flanagan, fondly known as Papa, was a World War II veteran and a dedicated family man. His trade as a cabinet maker ignited the entrepreneurial spirit that runs through all of us.
- Gladys, or "Happy" Flanagan, earned her nickname by seldom being seen without a smile. But make no mistake, she had the spirit of a Flanagan warrior, fiercely defending her children and grandchildren. Her determination and grit have been passed down through generations.
- Jim Flanagan, the oldest brother, possesses the quick wit of the Irish. He's the charismatic and easily likable one in the family, capable of making friends with anyone he meets. Jim is married to Jeannie and are Christopher's parents. To this day, Jeannie remains the only person who can put Jim in his place.
- John Flanagan was a dreamer and a true family man. He led by example and firmly believed that opportunities were often disguised as hard work. John married Sharon, and together, they raised five children, including Michael.

Uriah served our country with pride and retired from the US Navy. While he may not seek recognition for his service, we here couldn't be prouder and more honored by his and his family's sacrifices. Originally hailing from Oregon, Uriah's roots in the craft brew scene ignited his passion, which we all now get to benefit from. He's brought his wife and son along on this venture, and we can't wait to hear more about the rest of the Bishop clan's story. Stay tuned for more!
